How Do I Prepare for My Next Retie?

2 min read

Your retie appointment is more than just maintenance, it’s an opportunity to give your locs the attention they need and keep your loc journey moving in the right direction.

A little preparation before your appointment can help create a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for you and your loctician. Here are five simple ways to prepare for your next retie.

1. Let Us Wash Your Locs at the Salon

You don’t have to arrive with your locs already washed. At Angelic Locs, we’ll wash your hair at the salon and get your locs clean and ready for your retie appointment.

Before your appointment, simply avoid applying heavy products to your locs so they’re ready for their wash and maintenance.

2. Skip Heavy Products

Oils, creams, gels, and other heavy products can contribute to buildup and make maintenance more difficult.

When preparing for your retie, keep your locs as light and product-free as possible. Your loctician can also recommend products that are appropriate for your specific locs and scalp.

3. Give Your Locs a Gentle Check-In

Take a few moments to look at and feel your locs before your appointment.

Pay attention to things such as:

  • New growth

  • Thinning or weak areas

  • Buildup

  • Locs growing together

  • Changes in your scalp

  • Areas that feel tight or uncomfortable

Noticing these changes early gives you an opportunity to discuss them with your loctician during your appointment.

4. Avoid Excessive Manipulation

Your locs don’t need extra styling or pulling before your appointment.

Try to avoid tight hairstyles, excessive twisting, or anything that puts unnecessary tension on your roots. Give your scalp and locs a chance to rest before your maintenance session.

5. Come Ready to Communicate

Your retie is also a time to talk about your loc journey.

If you’ve noticed changes since your last appointment—or if something about your locs or scalp feels different—let your loctician know.

Good communication helps your loctician understand what your locs need and allows your maintenance session to be more intentional.

Your Next Retie Starts Before You Sit in the Chair

Healthy loc maintenance is a combination of professional care, consistent at-home habits, and paying attention to changes in your hair and scalp.

When you take a little time to prepare, you’re helping create a smoother maintenance experience while staying intentional about your loc journey.

At Angelic Locs, we believe your loc care should feel just as good as the results. Our team provides intentional care for Sisterlocks, Microlocs, and traditional locs in a peaceful, welcoming environment.

Not sure what your locs need at your next appointment? We’re here to help.
